Title: First Meeting
Fandom: Conn Iggulden's Emperor series
Characters: Gaius Julius Caesar, Marcus Brutus
Prompt: 001, Beginnings
Word Count: 202
Rating: G
Summary: Gaius and Marcus meet for the first time.
Author's Notes: I know it's not historically accurate. It is fanfic.

Gaius looked him up and down, trying not too feel too superior. He’d been worried that this boy would be taller, or stronger; but he was small for his age, and skinny. Gaius would win a fight.

“This is Marcus,” his father told him. “Marcus Brutus. He is going to live with us.”

“Why?” asked Gaius, noting the way the adults glanced at each other.

His father shook him by the shoulder. “Don’t be rude.”

It wasn’t rude. Brutus was the rude one, standing there and refusing to look at anyone. Maybe that’s why he was here. His parents had sent him away for looking sulky.

Tubruk touched Gaius on the shoulder, drawing his attention. “Maybe you should show Marcus round,” he suggested. “Your father and I need to talk.”

They always needed to talk, but Gaius knew better than to argue. As the adults walked away, he addressed Marcus for the first time: “I lived here first, and one day I’ll own the estate. That means you have to do what I say.”

Marcus didn’t look up, but Gaius saw his shoulders tremble a little, and he clenched his hands together.

But he didn’t argue, and followed when Gaius said “Come”.

Title: Above
Fandom: Conn Iggulden's Emperor series
Characters: Julius Caesar/Marcus Brutus, Julius/Servilia
Prompt: 027, Parents
Word Count: 355
Rating: R
Summary: Brutus could only lie and wait.
Author's Notes: Hinted slash, bad language, and no historical accuracy whatsoever.

He could hear them. It made him sick.

He could understand Julius having a wife. That was normal; the man needed a heir, after all, and Brutus wasn’t exactly equipped to provide one. He could even understand Julius having the odd fling, with slave girls and whores. Brutus did the same. It didn’t mean a thing.

But this. This was almost beyond bearing.

He couldn’t be angry at her, not really. He’d never thought about her as some men thought about their mothers, holy and pure. Once, he had, but years of Renius calling him ‘whore’s boy’ while knocking him into the dirt…well, it had fast destroyed any illusions he’d held.

And he knew what it was like to love Julius. How could he blame her for something he was guilty of as well?

It was Julius he was angry at. The other man could be insensitive, Brutus knew that more than anyone did: but there was insensitive, and then there was fucking your lover’s and supposed-best-friend’s mother.

And then there was carrying on an affair with her. Visiting her. Buying her expensive pearls. Possibly – loving her, more than her son.

Renius had told him to shut up. Let Julius do what he wanted. Interfering would only make things worse, drive Julius further away. If Brutus really loved him, he should let Julius fuck his mother – who, after all, was already ‘entertaining’ half the senate.

So Brutus shut up, following the advice of the man he thought of as a father. He lay on a couch below, listening to the sounds of the man he loved fucking his mother, and hoped they’d be finished soon. Julius would want Brutus to return to camp before dark, see to the men, and this could be Brutus’s last chance to see his mother for months.

And he didn’t think about the fact that his mother saw Julius first, that Renius was loyal to Julius over Brutus, and that even if it meant not seeing his mother for years, he would follow Julius’s orders and return to camp when it got dark.

What else could he do?

Now I´m depressed.

Both of them are very good. I liked the way you expresses Brutus feelings in the second story, almost without drama and still so intense.

(...btw, talk about insensitive! This guy just has no feelings ^_^)

Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it. And in the books this was based on - Julius is so insensitive it's shocking.

Hmm I dont know much at all about these people but curiosity made me read...and I'm glad. Very well written short ficlets. Lots of emotion packed into a small amount of sentences...good job.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it, even if you don't know much about them. Though if you're ever looking for something to read, they're good books!

Ah, lovely. I'm a huge fan of those books and you've captured the element and feel of them perfectly here. Poor Brutus. You can see some of his future behavior showing here as well.

I'd like to friend you, if you don't mind, so I can keep up with your fic/icon posts too. :)

Oh, yeah they are. I love 'em. Actually half way through the second one, and just got the third. Fully enjoy Iggulden's writing.

What other fandoms do you write in?

Glad to meet you. :p

Third and fourth are best, IMO. Slashiest, anyway, with lots of angst on top.

Embarrassingly, Power Rangers :). It's not a kids show, honest. That and historical fiction are my main things. But I love reading King Arthur, which I notice you're very into!

I like your icon, btw. That was a cool show.

Ah, thanks. :)

Yeah, I'm an Arthur freak. Slashiest. fandom. ever. :p

I'll try to hurry up and read the other books, now you've got me intrigued.

Eee! I really like both of these....I'm not familiar with the historical fiction they're based on, but they're really historical in FEEL, even if they're based on speculation :D Well done!

I haven't read the Emperor series yet, but both ficlets were very enjoyable and well-written, and the emotions were palpable. Julius in particular sounded very convincing.
